The Paris Regional Medical Center Emergency Response Team (ERT) began as a direct result of the West, Texas explosion (April 2013) and the 2015 Dallas/Fort Worth Tornado outbreak.
The Texas Emergency Medical Task Force-4 (EMTF-4) received a request from the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to assist in setting up mobile medical units and begin disaster recovery. The experience prompted the development of a team that could respond to significant disasters and emergency management situations internally as well as externally. Since the team’s inception, it is poised to evolve into a highly functional volunteer organization within the walls of Paris Regional Medical Center.
What makes the PRMC Emergency Response Team unique is that it is the first hospital-based team of its type in Texas. We have strong ties to the community and routinely work with area response partners during simulated exercises and real life events. As part of the EMTF the ERT has formed Memorandums of Understanding and Agreements with the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to mobilize and operate the 53’ Western Shelter Mobile Medical Unit (MMU), Rapid Response 16 Bed Zumro Medical Unit, and with the other volunteer organizations to deploy and augment their operations during catastrophic need or mass casualty surge as mandated.
The team is comprised of clinical and non-clinical volunteers who receive detailed and specific training that focuses on the “all hazards” approach to healthcare emergency management and response. The team consists of several individuals, both community volunteers and hospital employees, who have dedicated their time to preserving lives and ensuring the continuity of care for not only the healthcare system and local community, but our regional community as well.
